Spectroscopic and scintillation properties of RE3+AlO3:Ce pure and mixed perovskite crystals are presented for RE3+=Y3+, Gd3+ and Lu3+. Qualitative interpretation of gamma-ray induced centres in the crystals (up to 3000 Gy dose) have shown that different types of impurities, such as O- hole centres and F+ electron colour centres, arise in these crystals and can change the RE3+ ion valency or even change the ion valency unexpectedly.
