Magnetooptical effects in magnetic fluid containing large aggregates

摘要
Expressions for magnetically induced extinction for two orthogonal states of polarization of a system containing a mixture of single nanomagnets and their large aggregates are derived. It is shown that the plots of extinction vs. field exhibit minimum only for one state of polarization. The fields corresponding to minimum and crossover depend on number of aggregates. These deductions are experimentally verified for a dilution sensitive fluid. It is shown that the concentration of aggregates depends on temperature of the fluid. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
