摘要
Thermal stability and degradation characteristics of both unplasticized and plasticized gelatin-trimethylolphenol (TMP) cured blends have been studied. On crosslinking with TMP the typical 'super contraction' phenomenon of gelatin vanishes. The thermal stability of cured blends is also improved to a great extent (by similar to 55 degrees C for 5:5 gelatin to resin blends). Addition of plasticizer (PEG 400) offers further improvement in thermal stability up to a plasticizer content of 7.7 wt% on gelatin. Beyond 7.7% of plasticizer loading, however, a declining trend in thermal stability is observed. Moreover, the characteristic thermal degradation pattern of the plasticized blends clearly indicates that the plasticizer is chemically bound to gelatin-resin matrix and has a profound influence on thermal behavior of the blends.
