Optical Kerr effect measurements for organic multilayered structures

Optical Kerr gates are candidates for all-optical demultiplexers of a series of picosecond optical pulses. As a new candidate for the optical Ken gate the organic/inorganic multilayered structure composed of phthalocyanato tin(IV) dichloride (SnCl2Pc) and cadmium selenide (CdSe) was fabricated by the molecular beam deposition (MBD) technique. The linear and non-linear optical properties of the organic/inorganic multilayer were also measured. The third-order non-linear optical susceptibility and the two components of response time of the multilayer were estimated as 1.8 x 10(-8) esu, less than 80 fs and 5 ps, respectively. The good processability and the optical performance of this organic/inorganic heterostructure are exploring a possibility as a new kind of ultrafast optoelectronic switching material.
