(Chemical Equation Presented) The color of gold : Bacterial β-lactamases (Blas) can be rapidly identified by a simple and specific colorimetric assay with gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs). This assay can evaluate enzymatic kinetic reactions and screen inhibitors of Blas in real time, and offers a simple and economical method for the rapid detection of β-lactam resistant bacteria in clinical studies. © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
