Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals were obtained from patients and were recorded in a database. Despite the high common mode rejection ratio of the input amplifiers of the ECG, recordings were often contaminated by the mains frequency interferences, usually phase-shifted with respect to the mains voltage. These unwanted differential signals can be avoided by using the digital subtraction procedure. This procedure for mains interference elimination from the ECG and its improved version are virtually immune to mains frequency and voltage fluctuations even in the highest allowable limits.
