Self-consistent formalism for a strongly nonlinear composite: Comparison with variational approach

摘要
The self-consistent mean-field method is extended to discuss the effective nonlinear response of a two-component composite material characterized by a strongly nonlinear relation between the current density J and the electrical field E of the form J = chi\E\(beta)E, where chi is the nonlinear susceptibility which takes on a different value in each of the constituents and beta is a nonlinear coefficient. As an example, we apply the extended formalism to a two-dimensional system in which beta = 2. The results are compared to the numerical simulations. A better agreement than for the variational approach is found.
