[Nd6(μ6-O)(μ3-OH)8(H2O)24]I8 (H2O)12 -: the first basic rare earth iodide with an oxygen-centred M6X8-clusters core

摘要
Nearly colorless, plate-like crystals of the basic neodymium iodide, [Nd(mu(6)-O)(mu(3) -OH)(8)(H2O)(24)]I-8(H2O)(12) were obtained by hydrolysis of neodymium(III) iodide, NdI3 . x H2O, at pH = 7 in water. The crystal structure (Pearson code P156, orthorhombic, Pnnm (No. 58), Z = 2, a 1310.4(3), b = 1502.1(3), c = 1514.9(3) pm, 2738 reflections with I-o > 2sigma(I-o), R-1 = 0.0357, wR(2) = 0.0878, GooF = 1.043, T = 298(2) K) is characterized by oxygen centred {M6X8}(8+) clusters (M = Nd3+, X = OH-) These cationic clusters are arranged in a body-centred fashion. Charge balance is achieved by eight iodine anions, the remaining empty space is filled by twelve crystal water molecules per formula unit.
