Corrosion property of TiNi shape memory alloys coated with tantalum

摘要
The corrosion properties of TiNi alloys coated with tantalum were determined and were compared with the uncoated samples by electrochemical measurements. Multi-arc ion plating technique was used to coat TiNi shape memory alloys with tantalum. Higher open-circuit potential, lower pitting potential, passive current density, and a smaller hysteresis area were observed for the coated TiNi sample. These observations demonstrated that the technique of multi-arc ion plating improved the corrosion property and could be used to coat TiNi alloy.
