Hydroxyl-containing fluorinated polyimide-silica hybrid materials (FPI-SiO2) were obtained using the sol-gel technique by polycondensation of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) in 3-aminopropylmethyl diethoxysilane (APrMDEOS)-terminated amic acid solution. Infrared, Si-29-, and C-13- NAIR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to study hybrids containing various proportions of TMOS. The microstructure and chain mobility of the hybrids was investigated by spin-lattice relaxation time in rotating frame (T-lp(H)) measurements. The apparent activation energy (E-a) for degradation of the hybrids was studied by Friedman and van Krevelen methods.
