High-order nonlinear optical response of C-60-toluene solutions in the sub-picosecond regime

High-order optical nonlinearities of C-60-toluene solutions were observed employing the transient degenerate four-wave mixing technique using 0.5 ps laser pulses at 497 nm. The intensity and fullerene concentration dependence of fifth- and seventh-order signals were investigated. The effect of the nonlinear absorption on the nonlinear optical response is examined. The ratios \chi(eff)((5))\/\x((3))\ and \chi(eff)((7))\/\chi(eff)((5))\ are determined to be of the order of 10(-10) cm(3) erg(-1).
