Homoleptic heavier alkaline earth amides, M{N(SiMe3)(2)}(2)(THF)(2) (M = Ca, Sr, and Ba) are reported as precatalysts for the dimerization of aldehydes to the analogous carboxylic esters (Tischenko reaction).
