Role of transplantation (lung, liver, and heart) in sarcoidosis

Organ transplantation is an option for sarcoidosis patients with endstage lung, Liver or heart disease. Survival statistics vary for the organ transplanted but are not too different from survival rates for other systemic disorders. Although infection and rejection are troublesome for all organ recipients including those with sarcoidosis, there is the added problem of recurrence of sarcoidosis in the allograft. Sarcoidosis not an absolute contraindication for organ transplantation for the majority of transplantation centers.
