Strong O-H ... O hydrogen bonds between [(Hta)(H(2)ta)](-) anions derived from D,L-tartaric acid [H(2)ta] hold together a honeycomb superanion templated around the cation [Co(eta(5)-C5H5)(2)](+) via charge-assisted C-H ... O hydrogen bonds.
