Effect of addition of chromate ions on the corrosion behaviour of aluminium 6063 alloy in neutral media polluted by cupric ions.

摘要
The effect of addition of chromate ions on the corrosion behaviour of an aluminium 6063 alloy in synthesized irrigation water polluted by cupric cations was studied by electrochemical, gravimetric and SEM/EDAX methods. Results obtained show that in the polluted media, the alloy studied reveals a rupture of passive film and pitting corrosion. This phenomenon was interpreted by the copper metal deposition on the alloy surface and pitting. Addition of chromate ions leads to the inhibition of localized corrosion of the 6063 alloy. A mechanism of chromate action is suggested.
