Preparation and characterization of amorphous β-FeOOH nanowire arrays

Amorphous β-FeOOH nanowire arrays were synthesized using electrodeposition. The morphology, structure and composition of the product were characterized. Aluminium plates were anodized by direct current in 0.5 M phosphoric acid electrolyte for 1 hour after being degreased and electropolished. Structural characterization of the sample in the pores of anodic alumina membrane was carried out using X-ray diffraction analysis. Results indicated that the nanowires were paramagnetic at room temperature and iron existed in two different coordinations in the β-FeOOH nanowire arrays.
