Intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) in trinuclear and tetranuclear complexes of iron, ruthenium, and osmium

摘要
An overview is given of the fundamental electron-transfer properties of trinuclear and tetranuclear complexes through the analysis of their intervalence charge transfer (IVCT) absorption characteristics. Emphasis is on the multiplicity of the IVCT bands, and the appearance of appreciable second-order interactions. Focus is also placed on the influence of the molecular shape of the assemblies on the nature of the IVCT. The stereochemical complexities inherent in the majority of species incorporating polyridyl ligands are also outlined.
