Additional bands in the FT-Raman spectra of lanthanide compounds

摘要
Additional bands, unrelated to hypophosphite vibrational modes, were observed in the room-temperature FT-Raman spectrum of Nd. These features were not present in the conventional argon ion laser Raman spectrum, and were shown to correspond to emission transitions from the crystal field excited states of the 4F3/2 term to levels of 4I13/2. Although the Nd3+:YAG laser photon energy was much less than the energy of the 4F3/2 term in Nd(H2PO2)3, excited state absorption by the 4F3/2 levels can lead to population of 4F3/2.
