Double-exchange selection role for the c-axis conductivity in layered La2-2xSr1+2xMn2O7 single crystals below Tc

摘要
For the c-axis conductivity, sigma(c), of the colossal-magnetoresistive layered manganite La1.4Sr1.6Mn2O7 below T-c, experimental evidence supports the double-exchange (DE) selection rule, i.e., sigma(c)similar to cos(2)(eta/2), where eta is the angle between Mn spins in neighboring bilayers. Below T-c, the data also determine the inarbilayer magnetic exchange constant, which is reasonable with respect to recent spin-wave data, and the magnetocrystalline anisotropy. For c-axis fields, a mixed AF and spin-flop state (similar to the intermediate state of type-I superconductors) is a rigorous prediction of the data and modeling.
