Multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of the endohedral metallofullerene Dy@C-82 were constructed for the first time at the air-water interface. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy of these films revealed short-range ordered metallofullerene assemblies as well as layered structures. Individual metallofullerenes appeared intact after being transferred from the air-water interface. Blue-shifted UV-vis absorption peaks were observed and attributed to the partial oxidation of the metallofullerene balls. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
