New bismuth layer-structured ferroelectrics with niobium ions as B-site

A series of bismuth layer-structured oxides, Nam-1.5Bi2.5NbmO3m+3 [NBNm] (2 less than or equal to m less than or equal to 5), which can be viewed as a solid solution between a prototype bismuth layer-structured ferroelectric (BLSF), Na0.5Bi2.5Nb2O9 [NBN2], and a perovskite compound, NaNbO3, was studied on their dielectric and ferroelectric properties using normal and grain oriented ceramics. They form layer-structured ferroelectrics for layer-numbers m=2, 3, 4 and are new BLSFs. The cases m=3 and m=4 give weak ferroelectrics. No single phase with m=5 was obtained.
