Image-guided surgery of the sinuses: current technology and applications

Image-guided surgery (IGS) of the paranasal sinuses has steadily grown in popularity and usefulness. A number of systems are currently available, each with its relative advantages and disadvantages. The indications for the use of IGS in sinonasal and endoscopic skull base surgery continue to evolve. As these systems become increasingly available, the thorny issue of standard of care also evolves. This article reviews the currently available technology and discusses possible uses of IGS as well as some of the issues that arise with its use.
