摘要
An important juncture has emerged concerning the evidence in support of ultrasound (US)-guided venous access, the increasing familiarity of emergency physicians with ultrasonography, and recent attention to patient safety and clinical outcomes. US guidance offers the potential to increase the safety and efficiency of venous access procedures and offers improved outcomes. The potential for these improvements is compelling, especially among certain types of patients commonly treated in the emergency department. Varying levels of evidence support the use of US guidance over the traditional landmark approach for venous access. Many different techniques may be applied, depending on the clinical situation and equipment available.
