Different aspects of the pharmacology of Schisandra chinensis fruit and dibenzo[a,c]cyclooctene lignans from this plant are reviewed focusing in particular on the antihepatotoxic, antioxidant and antitumoural activities, and on the effects on physical performance and on the central nervous system.
