Reversible suppression of the so-called fishtail effect in ultra pure single crystals of YBa2Cu3O7-delta

We report on the absence of the so-called fishtail or peak effect in the magnetisation curves in twinned high purity (5N) single crystals of YBa2Cu3O7-delta. The suppression of this effect can be achieved with or without a change of the overall oxygen content. We conclude that the local oxygen vacancy distribution must be correlated with this effect.
