Template synthesis of carbon nanotubule and nanofiber arrays

摘要
We have prepared arrays of carbon nanotubes, capped nanotubes and nanofibrils with a nominal outer diameter of 200 nm and length of 60 mu m. This was accomplished via the polymerization of acrylonitrile within the pores of aluminum oxide membranes. After polymerization, a series of heat treating conditions converts the polymer structure into a quasi-graphitic structure. These carbon nanostructures were imaged by scanning electron microscopy, and their structure will be shown to be strongly reflective of the porous aluminum oxide host, monodisperse and cylindrical.
