Twist-grain boundary phase and blue phases in isocyanide gold(I) complexes

Stable and structurally simple chiral tetrafluorophenyl-gold(I) isocyanide complexes [Au(C6F4OR1)(Cequivalent toNC(6)H(4)C(6)H(4)OR(1))] [R-1 = (R)-2-butyl, R-2 = CnH2n+1 (n = 2, 10); R-1 = CmH2m+1 (m = 2, 10), R-2 = (R)-2-butyl; R-1 = R-2 = (R)-2-butyl] displaying a twist-grain boundary phase (TGBA*) and blue Phases are described. Their mesogenic behavior is discussed and their thermal properties are easily tuned by changing the number and position of the chiral chain in the complexes.
