We examined the 1-year costs and effects of primary infarct artery stenting compared with primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty in the cohort of 150 patients of the Florence Randomized Elective Stenting in Acute Coronary Occlusions trial. The average cost-effectiveness ratio was $12,026 per event-free survivor assigned to the stent group, and $15,638 per event-free survivor assigned to the primary percutaneous transruminal coronary angioplasty group, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was $962 per additional event-free survivor.
