In this issue of Immunity, Nishida et al., (2006) demonstrate a spectrum of dynamic conformation changes from a bent form to extended forms, in extracellular domains in alpha(X)beta(2) and alpha(L)beta(2) upon separation of the alpha and beta subunits, providing structural evidence for activation of leukocyte integrins.
