This paper describes some basic processes involved when a DNA molecule faces a pore and gets through. In the simple case considered here, the only driving force is a concentration difference between DNA outside and inside. For plausible conditions, the transfection time (the time required to force one molecule in) is expected to be reasonably short. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
