FTIR low resolution emission spectrometry of a laboratory-scale diffusion flame: experimental set-up

An experimental set-up for spectral radiation measurements on a soot-laden laminar diffusion flame is presented. The apparatus is composed of a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, a gas burner, a blackbody source and a set of transfer optics. A complete associated calibration procedure is described: this allows absolute measurements, spatial resolution and removal of instrument radiation emission sources. Measurements of radiation emitted by a propane/air laminar diffusion flame are performed in the 400-6000 cm(-1) spectral range at low resolution (8 cm(-1)). Vertical and horizontal radiation emission profiles exhibit variations of species composition and particularly the appearance of a continuous emission in the top of the flame due to soot particles.
