Rare-earth complexes containing π-bonded C6-cyclic aromatic ligands are among the most exciting and challenging organometallic compounds. These complexes had attracted the interest of chemists working in the area of organolanthanide chemistry for several reasons. This paper compiles and analyzes data on the synthesis, structure, bonding, and reactivity of π-bonded arene complexes of Sc, Y, La, and lanthanides.
