[(NH3CH2CH2CH2NH2CH2)2]0.5[Sb7S11]:: A new two-dimensional antimony sulfide with antimony-antimony bonding

A new two-dimensional antimony sulfide has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions in the presence of N,N'-bis(3-aminopropyl)ethylenediamine and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry and elemental analysis. The product [C-8- N4H26](0.5)[Sb7S11] (M-r = 1294.07) crystallizes in the triclinic space group, P (1) over bar, with alpha = 5.9550(3)Angstrom b = 14.567(1)Angstrom, c=15.093(1)Angstrom, alpha = 68.448(4)degrees, beta = 863.044(6)degrees, gamma = 82.280(6)degrees, V=1206 Angstrom(3), and Z = 2. The structure consists of infinite chains of formula Sb7S112- linked through antimony-antimony bonds (2.921(2)Angstrom) into two-dimensional slabs of approximate thickness 2.6 Angstrom. These slabs contain pores of dimensions ca. 17.5 x 5.2 Angstrom, which are aligned along the [100] direction. N,N'-Bis(3-aminopropyl)ethylenediamine cations reside between the slabs to which they are hydrogen bonded.
