We present Stark effect measurements of single terrylene and DBATT molecules embedded in the Shpol'skii matrix n-hexadecane. Upon fast changes of a strong electric field. most single-molecule lines show slow creeping toward a new equilibrium position. The origin of this relaxation effect is not clear at present, yet, it seems that there are at least two contributions with different time constants. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B,V. All rights reserved.
