This review developed from the discussions of two meetings, one was held in London, U.K. and the subsequent one, in San Francisco, U.S.A.; both were sponsored by The Foundation Fighting Blindness. The participants represented members of the U.K. and U.S.A. clinical and scientific communities, members of The Foundation Fighting Blindness and International Retinitis Pigmentosa Association advisory boards.
