Electrooptic properties and their temperature dependence in single crystals of lead barium niobate and strontium barium niobate

摘要
The temperature dependence of the electrooptic properties of tetragonal lead barium niobate crystals of compositions (PbxBa1-xNb2O6 where x = 0.50 and 0.57, i.e., PBN50 and PBN57) was measured. For comparison studies, similar measurements were performed on 0.01 mol% cerium-doped Sr0.61Ba0.39Nb2O6 (SBN61) single crystals (i.e., SBN61:Ce). Temperature dependences of the piezoelectric d coefficients for SBN61 were measured independently by resonance technique. Both PBN57 and PBN50 have electrooptic (EO) r(13) and r(33) coefficients that are large and are nearly temperature independent compared to the relatively temperature dependent coefficients found in the case of SBN61:Ce.
