Crack-healing behavior, high temperature and fatigue strength of SiC-reinforced silicon nitride composite

摘要
The cyclic fatigue and static fatigue strengths of the crack-healing ceramic SiC-reinforced SiN composite were assessed. The samples were hot-pressed containing 5 wt% yttria nd 3 wt% alumina. It was found that the healing condition has a large effect on fracture behavior. The best healing condition was found in the range 1200 to 1300 °C for one hour in air. The strength of the crack-healed samples were recovered completely. The crack-healed zone is sensitive to static fatigue at 1000 °C but not at 800 °C.
