Spin-polarized electron gas in quantum wires: Anisotropic confinement model

We calculate the ground-state energy of an interacting quasi-one-dimensional electron gas depending on the spin-polarization parameter zeta. For a quantum wire with a width parameter beta we calculate the spin-susceptibility kappa(s) as a function of beta and the Wigner-Seitz parameter r(s). We derive analytical results for kappa(s) within the Hartree-Fock approximation and the mean-spherical approximation. The numerical results obtained for the spinsusceptibility are fitted by an analytical expression. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
