A smoothly terminating rotational band in 64Zn

摘要
A rotational band has been discovered in the nucleus Zn-64; it extends from spin (12 (h) over bar) to spin (24 (h) over bar), and exhibits strong dipole transitions between its signature partners. In our interpretation, Zn-64 takes on triaxial deformation (epsilon similar to-0.3 gamma similar to 30 degrees) at intermediate spin when an f(7/2) proton is promoted across the spherical shell-gap at Z = 28 to the g(9/2) orbital. The situation is parallel to that occurring in the smooth terminating bands in the Sn and Sb isotopes at the Z = 50 shell-gap. The band in Zn-64 is the first example of a collective band approaching termination in the mass A similar to 60 region. Crown Copyright (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
