Analysis of electromagnetic and thermal fields for a bus duct system

Steel made casings are constructed in a bus duct system to provide mechanical protection and to guard against dust accumulation. An accuracy prediction of temperature distribution in the system must include not only the effect of total busbar losses, but also the eddy current losses induced in the steel plates. A finite element method is proposed to evaluate the losses generated in the bars and steel plates, which are then used as the heat sources for thermal analysis. A two-dimensional model is used for this analysis. The numerical results of this method are good and comparison with test data are presented. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
