Chain transfer to ionic liquid in an anionic polymerization of methyl methacrylate

摘要：

The effect of imidazolium ionic liquids on anionic polymerization of meth(acrylates), anionic polymerization of MMA in imidazolium ionic liquids with counterions was investigated. MMA was used as a model because both monomer and polymer are completely soluble in imidazolium ionic liquids used and thus reaction proceeds as homogeneous process. Imidazolium cations in imidazolium ionic liquids was treated as analogues of ammonium cations that have been used as counterions in the anionic polymerization of meth(acrylates). The exchange of ligands occurred apparently at the early stages of polymerization because signals corresponding to macromolecules containing terminal imidazolium group and the head-group from initiator could clearly be detected in MALDI TOF spectra. It was observed that imidazolium ionic liquids are not suitable solvents for controlled polymerization of MMA.
