Spectroscopic ellipsometric evaluation of gold nanoparticle thin films fabricated using layer-by-layer self-assembly

Thin films of gold nanoparticles were fabricated on a gold substrate by a layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly approach using a dithiol as the linking agent. The optical properties of these nanoparticle thin films were investigated using a variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometer. As such, the refractive indices were obtained from the ellipsometric data by fitting to a Lorentz oscillator dispersion model. The modeled data show good agreement with the experimental results.
