摘要
Although progression to AIDS has generally been believed to be related to exhaustion of the capacity for CD4(+) T-cell renewal due to persistently enhanced CD4(+) T-cell turnover, this view is now increasingly being challenged. Here, Katja Wolthers, Hanneke Schuitemaker and Frank Miedema discuss these new experimental findings and propose alternative explanations for CD4(+) T-cell depletion in human immunodeficiency virus 1 infection.
