摘要
Molecular beacons (MBs) are now widely used in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, and medical sciences for biomolecular recognition. This popularity is due in part to their functionality and molecular specificity. With the development of MB based assays, researchers are now able to conduct studies in areas previously not possible. These include solution-based RNA/DNA interaction investigations and living systems measurements, as well as protein/DNA interaction studies. With further developments, the possibility of using easily obtainable and designer DNA molecules for genomics and proteomics studies, for molecular diagnosis of diseases, and for new drug development is expected.
