The current tuberculosis (TB) vaccine Mycobacterium bovis bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is the most widely used vaccine worldwide, but it does not prevent the establishment of latent TB or reactivation of pulmonary disease in adults. Peter Andersen looks at the progress of the candidates to improve or replace BCG.
