Two-way switching based on a turnstile operation was investigated. A clocking modulation carries a turnstile current through an input and one of two output multiple-tunnel junctions (MTJs). By changing side-gate voltages to the output MTJs, the output turnstile current is switched between the two output branches. The switching current consists of electron packets containing as few as 100 electrons. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
