Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a complex multifactorial disease in which environmental, genetic, gender, and age-related factors are operating. Hormonal and immunological changes during pregnancy and the postpartum period are associated with profound changes in disease severity and incidence. There is evidence that some hormonal therapies can modify disease severity and decrease disease susceptibility.
