摘要：

The protecting group industry, impinging on virtually every aspect of organic chemistry, was reviewed. Topics covered were hydroxy protecting groups, thiol protecting groups, diol protecting groups, carboxy protecting groups, phosphate protecting groups, carbonyl protecting groups and amino protecting groups. The discussion on hydroxy protecting groups included a review of esters, silyl ethers, alkyl ethers and alkoxyalkyl ethers.
