Assessment of thermomechanical stresses and stability of ion-source grids with peripheral cooling

摘要
Application of peripheral cooling for ion-optics grids of diagnostic neutral beam injector is considered. The injector is designed to operate with up to 10 s pulse duration and 1 pulse/5 min repetition rate. The grid deformations under thermoloads during the beam-on phase were determined by using an appropriate semianalytical model, Distribution of thermo-mechanical stresses over grids and thermostability limit as a function of the grid's characteristics End heat loads were determined as well. The simulation results are compared with those obtained in the experiment with the grid prototype. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.
