Virtual colonoscopy is an exciting new technique using computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging to detect colonic neoplasia. Preliminary data suggest that the examination will have a role in the screening for colonic polyps; however, it is probably the best test for patients who cannot undergo a conventional colonoscopy or who have an incomplete colonoscopy.
